You need to download an image size that matches the resolution that your PC screen is currently set to. If the image is smaller than that size, it will replicate horizontally as well as vertically. If biiger, then park of the background will ne off-screen and it will appear as if you have "zoomed in" to the image. So you need to ascertain the setting of your current screen resolution.
For Windows 98 users .....
- Right click the Desktop (away from any icons)
- Left click on Properties
- Left click on the Settings folder tab
- See the "Screen area" slider at bottom right
- The "pixel" setting is your screen resolution
If the setting is 640 x 480 .....
You have a problem. This is an "ancient" setting but it nay be dictated by an elderly graphics adaptor or a very tired monitor. Either way, you can download the 800x600 image and simply resize it down with graphics software, but really you should be doing something about it as the vast majority of screens (about 60%) are set to 800x600 and a growing number are set to 1024x768. Nearly all current websites are optimised for 88x600 and you must be seeing lots of sites that require you to be constantly scrolling off screen.
If the setting is 800 x 600 .....
Easy, just select the 800x600 resolution and download
If the setting is 1024 x 768 .....
Easy, just select the 1024x768 resolution and download
If the setting is 1200 x 1024 .....
Hmmmm. These files are just getting too big.! We suggest you download the 1024x768 and resize it upwards, but just watch out for aspect ratio issues (where the image gets mildly distorted)
